400 I.M.

I loved swimming the 400 I.M. at the swim meet this weekend. It was fun. First I had to to do 4 lenghts of Butterfly. I was swimming against 12 year olds, so I went really fast! The first length I was in first place. The second length I was in second place. I was swimming fast and I did not feel tired yet.

After Butterfly I did backstroke where one of the other competitors passed me. "Go, go, go!" The coaches said. I pick up the pace.
I did breaststroke and did my underwater pull out. I felt like I was in last place so I had to swim faster. Last but not least was 4 lenghts of freestyle. I saw the person who was in first place on the second lenght of freestyle so I knew I had to bring it home with everything I had left. On the last lenght I went really fast and kicked hard. One of the coaches said, "He has still got power in him!"

When I finished the race I thought I was in third place but my Dad and I checked the results I placed second! That's a sliver medal. I hope to swim this race again!

  1. It was amazing to see Ian swim his 1st 400 IM at 8 years old. He put a lot of hard training in during the months prior to this race and it really paid off!

Last year he set his goal to complete a 400 IM. This is a great example of how setting goals in life, (be it in school, swimming, business or whatever), always keeping your eyes on the prize and working hard to achieve these goals is a recipe for success.

We are very proud of you Ian, keep up the good work!
